What are wrinkle relaxing treatments & how do they work?
Wrinkle relaxing treatments are used to create a fresher and more youthful appearance by causing a temporary freezing of the treated facial muscles. The areas we can treat are:
• on the forehead (frown lines),
• vertically or horizontally in between the eyes (brow furrows or glabellar) and/or
• the crow’s feet or laughter lines around the eyes.
• to correct a “gummy” looking smile.
• on “bunny line” wrinkles either side of the nose
• In the chin to correct “chin-ullite” bumpy chin
• in the masseter muscles to slim the face, and help with teeth grinding
• in the platysmal bands
The procedure is safe, not painful and is quick to perform.
What does the treatment entail?
There is an initial detailed consultation with our nurse, who will listen to what effect you are trying to achieve and advise accordingly. They will ask you to move the relevant areas of your face ( – that you wish to soften and rejuvenate), note any natural asymmetry, and take photographs for your own private record sheets. A prescription of recommended products and treatment plan will be created.. This will take around 15 minutes. We will then book you in for your treatment to take place.
A bespoke treatment of wrinkle relaxing treatments will be performed by our Aesthetics Practitioner Kirsty Lillian. Your treatment lasts around 30-40 minutes.
We do not provide treatment on the same day as your consultation.
I'M WORRIED THAT I LOOK EXPRESSIONLESS?!
Kirsty Lillian will mainly focus on creating your desired outcome using a variety of techniques to the upper third of the face. We do use advanced techniques in the lower areas of the face & neck but this is less frequently than the upper face. we can work on temporarily paralyses the treated muscles to allow any wrinkles caused by the constant movement of these muscles to gradually soften after treatment, even in older patients. The overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles continue to work normally so the facial expression is unaffected by the treatment. Patients look the same as they always have done, only more youthful and rested. The accuracy and precision of the professional administering them, play an important part in achieving a natural result without side-effects. If you desire a more “frozen” look we will discuss this at your consultation but for those of you who require a natural enhancement and still want expression we bespoke the treatment plan to each treated area.
IS WRINKLE RELAXING THE SAME AS 'FILLERS'?
The short answer is no. Fillers work by “filling in” a wrinkle, whereas wrinkle relaxing places the muscle into hibernation preventing wrinkling of the skin. Fillers are not as effective as wrinkle relaxing techniques in treating wrinkles in the upper third of the face but are very useful in plumping out the skin in the lower two-thirds of the face.
Side effects include, but are not limited to;
ªªAsymmetry of expression
ªªDrooping of the brow, or eyelid
ªªHeadache or a sensation of ‘tightness’ or ‘heaviness’
Adverse events are uncommon, usually occur within a few days of treatment and are expected to
be temporary, usually resolving spontaneously within weeks.
Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice designed to minimise risk and promote speedy recovery from any expected side effects.
